The Sea Captain Hilman Crosby House, Circa 1830. Hilman Crosby, an intercoastal ship captain, built this sturdy Cape Cod-style house in 1830 as a gift to his wife, in celebration of their marriage. Over the years, as the family grew they determined a need for additional space. To accommodate this need they decided to bring over by boat a house from Nantucket which they added to the original structure, some good old Yankee ingenuity. Today this beautifully restored home sits elegantly among the other private estates and historic houses that line the quiet Main Street of Centerville. In 1985, after retiring from a successful career in the corporate world, the current owner and his wife purchased this property, fulfilling two long-time desires. One, retire to the Cape, the second to become innkeepers. Some folks think of retirement as an ending, but for them it marked the beginning of a fulfilling new lifestyle. Fifteen years prior to the purchase the couple began romanticizing the idea of becoming Innkeepers and owning a Bed & Breakfast. This dream became a reality when they graciously opened their doors to the public, transforming the home into The Copper Beech Inn.
