Old Sea Captains & Endless Ponds — The Quiet Side of the Cape
Brewster earned the nickname 'Sea Captain Town' in the 19th century — at the height of the saltwater trade era, more deep-sea captains lived here than in any other town in America. Today it retains that tranquil, unhurried character, with more freshwater ponds per square mile than almost anywhere in the country, the extraordinary low-tide spectacle of Brewster Flats (the longest tidal flats in the world), Nickerson State Park, and the Cape Cod Rail Trail threading through its center.
